Dream, Again

It spent a long two and half years stuffed away in a box in the closet, but the sailing dream was brought out last week, dusted off, and put on top of the dresser.  With just around six months left here it is time to finally start teasing myself with dreams of owning my own sail boat.  Heck, maybe even living on my own sailboat.  Who knows, I may even invite my wife and kids to join me.

The manner in which the dream stumbled out of storage is pretty much a direct representation of my normal thought process.  Random.

I've been pouring through a lot of books, lately.  Somehow I got onto a sci-fi kick a few months back.  Not a big deal, but I normally do not read sci-fi.  The kick started with Ender's Game, which I read for the second time (the first being in 1998).  I did not dive straight back in to sci-fi, reading a book about running before picking up Isaac Asimov's "Foundation."  After that I turned to a book about Pakistan, and then... the hook embedded itself fully.  More Ender, more Foundation, on to Hunger Games (entire trilogy devoured in about a week).  I could not keep away.  Finally, after a so-so book, I made a conscious effort to avoid sci-fi by reading a biography about Bartholomew Roberts, aka Black Bart, the pirate.  Guess what there was a lot of in the book.  Sailing.  Open closet, box falls out, lands on head, old dream revived.

It didn't help that this occurred in early July, prime pina colada and margarita weather.

So, with the hook back in me, I grabbed Bumfuzzle for my Kindle.  Very interesting read.  Funny, light-hearted.  Not really serious sailing, but serious life living and traveling (via boat).

I know I have to pace myself.  I do not want the suddenly re-lit wick of this dream to burn itself out.  But seriously, sitting on the balcony, listening to some calypso--I could easily be sitting on my boat and doing the same.  Soon.  Very soon.

  1. Are you reading Rog & Sue's blog? I think you should since it will give you a good idea what to expect. There are a lot of pina colada evenings.
